Dental

Building good dental habits early sets your child up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Here are five simple tips that make a real difference.

1. Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears. Use a soft, small brush and a rice-grain amount of fluoride toothpaste for toddlers.

2. Make brushing a two-minute habit, twice a day. Brushing together as a family or using a timer can help it stick.

3. Limit sugary snacks and drinks. Frequent sipping on juice or sweet drinks throughout the day is one of the biggest contributors to cavities in kids.

4. Don’t skip the first dental visit. We recommend a first checkup around the first birthday, or when the first tooth appears, to catch any issues early.

5. Consider sealants and fluoride treatment. These simple, painless treatments add extra protection to the back teeth where cavities most often start.

Small habits now save a lot of dental work later — and help your child feel comfortable at the dentist for years to come.
